Definition of Tajweed

 التَّحْسِينُ وَالْإِنْيَانُ بِالْجيد

 To beautify, to beautify The literal meaning of Tajweed is doing something well.

 Terminological Meaning of Tajweed

 هُوَ عِلْمٌ يُبْحَثُ فِيهِ عَنْ خَارِج ا الْحُرُوفِ وَصِفَاتِهَا وَعَنْ طُرُقِ تَصْحِيحِ الْحُرُوفِ وَتَحْسِينِهَا 

That is, the knowledge of Tajweed is the name of the knowledge in which the meanings of the letters and their attributes and the correctness (correcting) and appreciation (beautifying) of the letters are discussed.
